What cash level should I play at when switching from Tournament to Cash games

  • Doornumber7 (Atlanta, GA)

Hey guys, have been strictly playing tournaments since becoming a member last year and it's helped me experience a level of success I'm very happy with. A few weeks ago, I missed the registration deadline for a tournament so I decided to sit down at a 1/2 cash game and was shocked at how easy the table was. Maybe it was pure luck but I played for about an hour and was up over $400. I was not up so much because I was making hands (my biggest win was with a pocket pair of 7's at showdown) but because I was able to read the players so well.

Last year, I made a decision to focus only on playing tournaments because I felt if I tried to learn cash at the same time, it would result in making a mistake at a crucial moment in a tournament. However, after my easy money experience, I've started to wonder if I should loosen up my thinking and play cash too. Watched Nick's video on this subject and the biggest take away for me was not to mix the two on the same day. Wondering if you recommend tournament players play cash games while still getting a good grip on the basics? If yes, do you recommend starting with 1/2 or 2/5 games?

Yesterday I shared my thoughts with a tough opponent I often play against and he shared that he gave up playing 1/2 long ago because he believes it's bad poker and by hanging around it, his game suffers. What say you?
