What is LearnWPT Launch?

LearnWPT Launch is an interactive Digital Tournament Strategy Workshop dedicated to preparing you to play your best poker and make sure you’re ready to execute at the tables this summer.

The entire curriculum encompasses four (4) Digital Sessions conducted over a span of 2 Weeks. Each Session is highly structured and designed to deliver the maximum impact to your game over 8 immersive hours of instruction with Team LearnWPT. Through expert lecture and collaborative hand analysis utilizing concrete examples, we’ll align your strategy and make sure you’re focused on the most critical factors when taking your seat at the table.

The strategies you'll learn are powered by the incredible knowledge and skills of the LearnWPT Instructors. For each Session you’ll be taught from a different combination of Instructors and gain invaluable strategy knowledge through their unique perspectives on common spots at the poker table.

DAY 1 - SESSION 1:
May 14th | 7PM EDT - 9PM EDT

EARLY STAGE PLAY

Large field multi-day Tournaments like those found in Las Vegas during the WSOP, Wynn, Venetian, and Aria festivals often start with huge stacks offering plenty of chances to build a mountain of chips starting from hand 1.

If you aren’t focused on chip accumulation while the tournament field still includes a larger percentage of recreational players, you’re missing out on opportunities to gain a big chip advantage and set yourself up for a deep run. 

During This Session Johan Will Focus On: 

  • Crucial Adjustments for 100BB+ Starting Stacks 
  • Strategy Preflop Review for 50BB, 30BB, 25BB, 20BB, and 15BB Stacks
  • 3-Betting Strategy Based on Stack Size and Opponent Tendencies
  • Default Approach to Continuation Betting 

 

Featuring guidelines for specific stack depths, this Session Johan will outline preflop strategy considerations and c-betting guidelines based on player types, plus address the most common trouble spots encountered in preflop tournament scenarios. Johan will also break down the role of 3-betting preflop, and how to target your 3-bets for maximum effectiveness across various stack size fluctuations in a tournament.

You’ll also receive prework Strategy Episodes to review and selected WPT GTO Trainer packs to practice and improve your play when first in as the preflop raiser or calling vs a single opponent.

 

DAY 2 - SESSION 2:
May 16th | 7PM EDT - 9PM EDT

DEALING WITH AGGRESSION

The Summer Poker Tournament season in Las Vegas brings together players from all walks of life and experience levels, in search of an elusive WSOP Bracelet and massive life-changing score. These large fields are typically full of eager and aggressive opponents looking to build big stacks and take advantage of deep unlimited reentry structures.

Your ability to determine the correct times to continue and when to pull the trigger on a 4-Bet will directly correlate with your cashing percentage and overall return on investment in the events you play.

During This Session RIzen Will Focus On: 

  • Specific Stack Based Range Adjustments for Defense Strategies
  • Guidelines for Continuing vs Aggression With a Wide Hand Ranges
  • Key Considerations for Continuing on Common Flop Textures
  • Exploitative Adjustments For Overactive Opponents

 

In this Session the Rizen will demonstrate exactly what you need to consider when responding to aggression preflop, including the importance of position and stack depth, and how to make quick adjustments based on observed opponent tendencies. Rizen will upgrade your Defense Strategy and give solid guidelines for proceeding postflop after calling a first-in raise or flatting a 3-Bet Preflop, whether you flop a huge hand or complete air.

You’ll learn when to apply pressure through check-raising and when you have good equity to float in-position, through drilling WPT GTO Trainer Solutions focused on Defense strategies for key Tournament scenarios.

DAY 3 - SESSION 3:
May 21st | 7PM EDT - 9PM EDT

PLAYING THE TURN AND RIVER

No-Limit Hold’em Tournament poker strategy is evolving more rapidly than ever before. As deeper study of range interaction and equity distribution through GTO solvers uncovers more potential branches of the game tree in common situations, so does the need to increase your skill in navigating these spots.

With the pot increasing on the turn and river the magnitude of each decision increases exponentially, and so should your attention to key factors in the hand when deciding how to proceed. You will undoubtedly be faced with more frequent and unique decisions on the turn and river during a huge multi-day tournament featuring a wide variety of opponents.

During This Session Gags Will Focus On: 

  • Identifying and Exploiting Capped Ranges
  • Responding to Equity Changing Cards
  • Fastplaying vs Slowplaying Big Hands
  • Geometric Betting and Targeting River Bluffs

 

This Session will guide you through the dynamic decision-making process used by Gags and the LearnWPT Instructors to quickly assess the best course of action and maximize expected value in the process. Gags will provide you with key reference points based on potential for equity changing cards and how they interact with likely ranges, plus break down appropriate bet sizing for specific parts of your range on assorted runouts.

You’ll expand your move making toolkit and unlock new approaches to winning pots without having to have good cards, and train your ability to dermine equity and nut advantage through targeted practice on the WPT GTO Trainer.

DAY 4 - SESSION 4:
May 25th | 7PM EDT - 9PM EDT

ICM AND BUBBLE PLAY

As you progress through a No-Limit Hold'em poker tournament, the value of your chips in relation to the prize pool steadily increases. There are several inflection points where accurately assessing the approximate value of your stack according to the Independent Chip Model (ICM) and specific game conditions can mean the difference between a six figure score and going home empty handed.

Building a game plan to adjust and exploit tournament situations as a factor of ICM pressure will ensure you are focused on maximizing your chances of winning the most money possible.

During This Session Tony Will Focus On: 

  • Independent Chip Model (ICM)
  • Identifying Bubbles and Players to Exploit on the Bubble
  • How Independent Chip Model (ICM) Strategy Changes Based on Your Chip Position
  • Role of the Chip Leader at The Final Table
  • Using the Short Stack as a Weapon

 

This Session Tony gives a detailed review of the specific times in a Tournament where you need to consider the effects of ICM and the systems that winning professionals use to adjust their play in these scenarios. Key adjustments Tony will cover include how to modify your hand range based on stack size near the bubble, when you should ramp up aggression with any two cards, and just how early in the tournament you should be thinking about ICM. 

Your training for these scenarios will include several Final Table and Heads Up solutions from the WPT GTO Trainer to practice the unique modifications necessary when each decision has large real money implications.  

DAY 5 - SESSION 5:
May 26th | 7PM EDT - Winner!

Tony Dunst

One of the original online poker professionals who helped usher in the poker boom, Tony Dunst joined the World Poker Tour as host of the WPT Raw Deal segment and spent seven seasons analyzing some of the most pivotal hands from World Poker Tour events. When Mike Sexton retired from the WPT commentary booth, it was only natural for Tony to be promoted into the role starting with Season XVI.

Tony was able to etch his name on the WPT Champions Cup, winning WPT Caribbean and in 2016 added another marquee title to his poker resume when he won a WSOP gold bracelet. Tony won his second WSOP bracelet in 2020, his first WSOP Circuit Ring in 2021, and another Circuit Ring in 2022 adding to his long list of accomplishments.Not one to shy away from a challenge, Tony made his presence felt in the largest ever WSOP Main event, battling through a field of over 10,000 entries to finish in 66th place for $130,000.

In addition to being widely recognized for his prowess as an expert poker player and commentator, he has written articles on dozens of topics both within and outside of poker. Tony quickly developed a loyal following of fans, who are often rewarded with his well-informed and lightning-quick takes via his social media platforms and during WPT broadcasts.

Michael "Gags30" Gagliano

Known by his online screen name Gags30, has been playing poker professionally for more than 15 years while also helping students achieve their goals as a coach for almost a decade. He began playing online with low stakes sit and go’s and multi-table tournaments before moving into high stakes online MTTs and continued to crush the online felt. After much success, Michael broadened his focus to include online and live cash games. 

Gags successfully transitioned into the live poker arena in 2011 with multiple top 3 finishes in high profile tournaments including WSOP Bracelet events, multiple Borgata Poker Opens, and 5th in WPT Prague. Michael won his 1st World Series of Poker Bracelet in 2016 after qualifying online outlasting a field of over 1000 players for a $448K first prize, his 2nd WSOP bracelet after winning the October 2022 Online Bracelet Series Event #18, and took home a 3rd WSOP Bracelet in September 2023.

Michael has been a staple in the East Coast scene, an active ambassador for partypoker US Network and Borgata Poker, and also serves as a consultant for major online poker sites to help improve their product as well as being a fierce advocate for the player.

Eric “Rizen” Lynch

Known in cyberspace as “Rizen”, Eric’s internet poker career took off when he won the PokerStars Million Dollar Guaranteed Tournament in May 2006 and took the prestigious Tournament LeaderBoard award for that month.

Eric has made over 300 Final Tables in high profile events, including 5 WSOP tournaments featuring a 3rd place finish in a Pot Limit WSOP Event in 2006. He also excels at the cash game tables, having logged thousands of profitable hours both live and online.

Eric is one of the pioneers in hand analysis and is the author of Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time, Vols. I, II, and III, considered the most comprehensive collection of expert hand analysis in print.

He has had the privilege of helping hundreds of students from all skill levels grow into successful players during the past 13 years teaching alongside Nick Binger and Andrew Lichtenberger for the World Poker Tour.

Johan Schultz-Pedersen

A rising force in the poker world, Johan is powered by his dedicated study and passion for analysis. While still very young in life at the age of 23, Johan is a seasoned veteran of online poker having racked up over $1M in cashes during his short career. Playing in the hyper competitive international online scene he has amassed an impressive tally of winnings including a victory in the PartyPoker $1,050 buy-in $150K GTD for $43,428.

While online poker has been the focus early in his career, Johan has recently taken to the live felt and secured his 1st WSOP cash with a deep run in the traditionally stacked field of the $5K 6-Max No-Limit event with a 24th place finish. Continuing with his breakout success in the live arena, Johan took home €144,300 for his deep run in the 2023 PokerStars EPT Paris €5K Main Event.

Q: HOW DO I ATTEND THE LEARNWPT LAUNCH SESSIONS?
A: LearnWPT Launch is conducted in our interactive Course Model and using Zoom. The Sessions and supplemental training is easily accessible via any internet connected device. Attendees will receive detailed instructions on how to access the LearnWPT Launch Course including prework and archived Sessions upon purchase as well as tips for using Zoom.

It is recommended that Attendees use headphones with microphone capability for best user experience. Attendees should also make sure they have a quiet and comfortable space so as not to be distracted from learning during the Sessions.

Whether you have an example relevant to the specific curriculum during downtime, between Live Sessions, or you’ve got a tough tournament spot during the summer grind, you’ll be able to easily capture and share hands for analysis in the Private Strategy Forum. Your hands might even be selected for use during a future Live Session.
