C-bet sizing

  • strangerdave (Queenstown, MD)

Often, I have to raise 4-5 times the Big Blind in order to thin the field pre-flop.  But when I do this, I am sometimes put in a position of risking a significant number of chips when I continuation bet on the flop, and then, if warranted, on the turn.  Consequently, I am sometimes virtually pot committed and can't get away from hands I feel are losers, such as top pair, when I get re-raised.  Is it wise to reduce the c-bet amount to 1/4 to 1/3 of the pot size as a default strategy rather than 1/2 to 3/4?  Thank you.
