calling a 3 bet with ak off instead of 4 betting?

I chose to 4 bet; I believed both utg players had poor poker skills; observed questionable utg raising at this table by these players during this tournament which is now in its 3rd hour. in response to my 4 bet I get an all in 5 bet; still have over 35 bigs if I fold; knew I was likely up against a pair; called; 99; lost; went to the rail; but was it worth the tournament life? Should I have just called the light 3 bet and seen a flop which probably would have been multi opponent if I just call  the light reraise or just fold the 4 bet and not gamble the tournamnet life on one hand? I seem to go out of tournaments often when I call a preflop all in with ak. Thanks, Tim
