Episode 271 Dunst/Machine Follow Up

  • mysteryplayer (NY, NY)

Wow- great episode and A LOT of info!!

I'm sure we'll be getting deeper into piosolver but this video got me thinking alot about our default strategy and how that may change the more we learn and use piosolver.

So for now, a few questions:

1. Can any of the examples Tony covered be used in a cash game? Especially the 3 and 4 betting examples (both from a calling and betting perspective), as well as the cbetting and double barrelling.

2. As alluded to in my opening comment, do we throw out our default strategy, for example, of only calling if it is less than 5% ES, when piosolver says to continue against a 3bet but the call amount is well north of 5%? In Tony's example (CO open raise gets 3bet), piosolver says to call the 3bet based on the specific cards, but does not take into consideration the call was ~10% ES.

3. Similar question regarding turn double barrelling. Our default has been to double barrel on scare cards but piosolver is saying the opposite - to double barrel on a brick. So does that mean we should stop double barrelling on scarecards (not just A K Q over cards but cards that hit a draw like a 3rd of a suit, that we could represent having).

4. Similar question regarding cbetting when deep stacked and opp. Our default is to cbet almost 100% of the time but now piosolver is saying it's a check 70% when deep and opp. What is correct play??

The more I write this post and the more I think about this, the more overwhelmed I'm feeling. Piosolver sounds great but it feels like its turning poker into a game of memory versus strategy. As we all know, there are literally thousands and thousands of situations in poker, and as humans, we can't possibly remember all of the hand ranges at all the different stack sizes, positions etc etc etc that piosolver spits out, plus you're suppose to keep the frequency % in check.......???? Only people with computer like brains will be able to play this game in the future. I have no desire in becoming a machine!! Ugh.. feeling very discouraged...
