How could hero have played this better postflop

Online .1/.25 cash.

villain was a rec player

Flop- I think I made a good cbet, not sure. Villain raised it 9x my bet. Thats abnormally high. Should I have just folded here? Or would that be too tight against a rec player?

Turn- Hero checked, villain bet half pot and hero called. I thought raising would be too aggressive, and folding too tight.

River- Here, I think I really screwed up. I choose to shove because I couldn't call a shove which was what I thought villain might do. It was a bad play because it would have folded out hands that would just checked it down anyway, and I'm probably only getting called by hands that beat me (maybe AxXs calls, not sure.) Should I have checked, and just folded to a large bet, and maybe, call a blocker-sized one?
