How to determine position with a button straddle?

  • Celeborn33 (La Habra, CA)

I was in a cash game, nine players, with the option of doing a button (Mississippi) straddle. The straddle forced the small blind to act first, thus the button acted last both pre and post flop. If I was in the UTG position and I counted back from the button to determine my position, the button and cutoff being the 2 late positions, the next 3 positions are middle, then UTG+1 being EP4, me in the UTG position would be EP3, the big blind EP2 and the small blind EP1. Thus there are 2 late positions, 3 middle positions and 4 early positions in this nine handed game..is this correct? Also I have heard that when the button straddle is an option, we should always take it since the blinds lose their advantage of acting after the button pre flop, is this correct also? Thanks for your input.
