Pre Flop Strategy

  • GeorgeLukas (Columbus)

I struggle with the raise or fold strategy of non-spec hands preflop. My example is if you have a hand like KQs or AJs or even the offsuit versions in late position. You are facing a standard preflop raise from a player in middle position. We are ahead of their hand range so our strategy is to reraise them, right?

Well, what happens when they happen to be opening with a hand that is in the top of their range like AK, AQ, AA, ,KK? These hands have us dominated and we are just throwing chips away when we run into them. Even smaller pairs JJ-88 will often jam to a 3 bet preflop.

So even against any pocket pair we just are taking a coin flip if we call their allin. I really don't like my main strategy involving just hoping to be up against a coin flip for my stack. I'm not trying to be a schmuck, I just want a little help processing these situations.

Also, isn't there situations where flatting with your premium hands against the pre flop aggressor allows an aggressive opponent to continue to throw his chips away after the flop? Reraising preflop usually kills that action.

I am mainly playing $1,000 guaranteed MTT's online.

Thanks.
