On a nine handed table I raised in an early middle position to $10 in a 2/4 game with pocket tens. The $10 was a typical pre-flop raise that was thinning the field. All players fold except the big blind who raises me to $30. He has about $1000 while I have only about $160. This player had shown a lot of aggression at the table but when his cards were shown at showdown he had the right cards a high percentage of the time. So I figure he is re-raising with perhaps pocket sevens or higher and AK or AQ suited or off-suit. My thought process was to re-raise to try and put him off the middle pocket pairs and maybe even AQ. A normal three times raise would be $90 only leaving me $70 behind which, I believe, makes me pot committed. My other thought is to call and see the flop and hope that no paint or ace comes up. But I have done that in the past and paint or an ace comes up frequently and I feel it is too loose to always muck and with so little behind I assume my chips may end up in the stack regardless. I figure I am most likely ahead of him right now and decided to put him all in. He called with AK off suite and hit his King. I find this happening way more than the supposed "coin toss", at least in the situations that I go all in and get a call. I have raised like this in the past a got a fold but when I get a call with two over cards i have found, by keeping track, that the board eventually hits the over card closer to 70% of the time. So I find myself questioning my decision. Knowing that the player appears to be a tight player and likely has two over cards in his hand range, even though percentage wise I am head with my pocket tens, considering I will be all in or at least pot committed, would the better play have been to just call and consider mucking when the king comes on the board and he leads out with a bet?
Also, I cannot figure out how to "ask a video question" on the site. I cannot find that tab. Maybe my subscription does not allow for video questions?
