Was this a bad 3 bet

A call would not quite meet the calling criteria, So I though I had a good shot at taking it down Preflop or on the flop if called by the original raiser. I was planning on letting it go to a shove from one of the bigger stacks. But when the BB shoved I thought the pot odds were too good to fold. 

Was that plan reasonable or should I have just folded preflop
