Pot Odds

The odds a player is getting to continue in the hand. Pot odds is a ratio comparing the size of the pot to the size of the bet. Key pieces of the calculation are, how much is in the pot and how much it costs to call the bet. The opponent's bet is considered part of the pot. Divide the size of the pot by the size of the call and compare the result to 1. Example: Player A is facing a bet of 100 into a pot of 200. Divide 200/100 and get a result of 2. Compare the result to 1. In this instance the pot odds are 2:1 to continue in the hand. All pot odds are expressed as a ratio. Pot odds only apply when behind in the hand and drawing. If the pot odds are higher than the card odds, calling with the hand will be profitable. If the pot odds are less than the card odds, calling with the draw may be a losing play.
